Since the beginning of the twelfth century, when the Monastery of St. Andrew of Ancede was founded, its history is closely related to the production and marketing of wine. From the medieval period, the wine produced in its couto was channeled to the city of Porto, integrating the commercial circuits of the river Douro.
With the profits of wine exports, the Monastery was enlarged and dignified through the acquisition of works of art and successive architectural reformulations, to the extent that, in the 18th century, the grand building of the barns and the wine cellar was built. together with the mill, form today the space of the Interpretative Center of Vine and Wine.
Here you can visit a small exhibition about the cycle of the vine and wine, learn about the history of this Monastery, know the functionality of these spaces and visit the Quinta, where 20 panels are in natural mosaic with the Mysteries of the Life of Christ.
